Mühle-Glashütte is a family-owned German watch brand with an impressive history that dates back to 1869. Presently based in the historic watchmaking town of Glashütte, this nautical-instrument and wristwatch production firm has been efficiently managed by the sixth-generation members of the renowned Mühle family. Respecting the long-established traditions of the Glashütte region, the primary focus of the brand is to manufacture exceptionally precise and robust timekeepers capable of handling extreme conditions of the Land, the Sea and the Air.

The brand’s wristwatch portfolio offers extensive selection, typically ranging from elegant dress watches to robust diving instruments, and from sports models to aviation timepieces. The remarkable collections from the Mühle Glashütte company are: 29ER, Lunova, Panova, ProMare, Terrasport, Teutonia and Tool Watches. All collections steadfastly maintain their own distinctness and special qualities.

The Mühle watches have been known worldwide for their high-precision, robustness and operational reliability. Its S.A.R. Rescue-Timer has been used by the rescue cruisers of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) since 2002. The brand also produces timepieces for German military for equipping their rescue pilots and the members of the Marine battalion. Both exterior parts and inner mechanisms of Mühle Glashütte watches are able to withstand extreme mechanical stress and pressures. The fine regulation system developed in-house by the brand in 2003 ensures remarkable accuracy of the timepieces even in the most challenging conditions.

The innovative company was established by Robert Mühle (1841-1921) of the long-established Mühle family, based in the German federal state of Saxony. Before founding his own firm, he had been working in the Moritz Grossmann watch manufacture. Founded in 1869, his own precision mechanical workshop "Robert Mühle Glashütte i.S." manufactured measuring instruments for the watchmaking companies based in Glashütte and for the German School of Watchmaking. At the dawn of the 20th century, the company became a major manufacturer of high-precision measuring instruments. During this era, Robert Mühle’s sons - Paul, Alfred and Max Mühle – joined the family business and in 1905 the company was renamed as “R. Mühle & Sohn”. From 1918, the distinguished watchmaking family began producing speedometers, rev counters and car clocks.

In 1945, soon after the Second World War, a considerable number of watch companies in Glashütte including “R. Mühle & Sohn” were nationalized by the soviet controlled government. In December 1945, Hans Mühle, the son of Paul Mühle, founded "Ingenieur Hans Mühle" Company to revive the family business. This new firm manufactured motion works for pressure and temperature measuring devices. When Hans Mühle died in 1970, his son Hans-Jürgen Mühle took over the management of his father's company. However, in 1972, "Ingenieur Hans Mühle" was converted into the state-owned enterprise "VEB Feinmechanik Glashütte" by the authorities. Meanwhile, Hans-Jürgen Mühle continued in his role as the plant manager of the state-owned company until the unification of Germany in the early 1990s.

In 1994, Hans-Jürgen Mühle re-established the family company under the name "Mühle-Glashütte GmbH Nautische Instrumente und Feinmechanik", for manufacturing the traditional marine timing systems and the marine chronometers. In 1995, the company released its first wristwatch collection, consisting of sport diving watches and maritime pilots' watches. In 2000, Thilo Mühle joined the family business.

In 2002, Mühle-Glashütte introduced S.A.R. Rescue-Timer, the watch developed in cooperation with the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). In 2003, the company developed the patented woodpecker neck regulation, which ensures superior shock protection. In 2008, the Mühle three-quarter plate was launched. In 2011, the brand introduced the MU 9411 hand-wound caliber, the first movement to be fully designed by Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte. In 2014, to mark the 145th anniversary of the founding of the company by Robert Mühle, the "R. Mühle & Sohn" manufacture collection was released. During this period, the company also introduced manufacture calibers like RMK 01, RMK 02 and RMK 03.

In 2018, Dustin Mühle, the son of Thilo Mühle, joined the company. To mark the 150th anniversary of the family business, Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte released the special edition Robert Mühle Mondphase in 2019.

All the movements typically incorporate high-quality finishing, including some typical Glashütte techniques like blued screws and Glashütter graining. The manufacture also creates in-house mechanical calibers, for example, the RMK (Robert Mühle Kaliber) hand-wound movements of the “R. Mühle & Sohn” manufactory line.

The Mühle-Glashütte watches are available with stainless steel bracelets or straps made of leather, rubber, bi-material (leather and rubber) or textile.
