All About Tutima Glashutte
Tutima is a German manufacturer renowned for its impressive functional instrument watch collections made for sportily active amateurs and professionals. Tutima Glashutte additionally offers classic mechanical watches highlighting the globally acclaimed traditional watchmaking artistry of the Glashutte region.
The iconic brand was originally established in 1927 Glashütte in Germany by Dr. Ernst Kurtz to produce high-quality timepieces. In the early 1940s, the company rose to become a major manufacturer of timepieces for the German military. In the mid-1940s, during the peak of the WW-II, production of the tutima brand watches interrupted. In the 1960s, this traditional German brand was revitalized by Mr. Dieter Delecate. A prominent expert in professional timing instruments and military watches, the company continued to operate in Ganderkesee in Lower Saxony, Germany until Tutima’s successful return to Glashütte in 2011.
Presently, Tutima belongs to the exclusive group of German watch manufactures that passionately keep Glashütte’s deep-rooted horological tradition alive. The brand’s professional timekeepers are known for their robustness, functionality and reliability. Their classic collections offer noble, beautiful, and precise dress watches carrying the design codes of Glashütte’s traditional watchmaking. In addition to its standard collections, the brand also creates high-complication timepieces like minute repeaters and flyback chronographs.
Tutima enjoys a distinguished history that goes back to the 1920s, the glorious era that witnessed an impressive number of social, economic and cultural changes across the world. In 1927, Dr. Ernst Kurtz founded two watch making companies in Glashütte: Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashütte AG (UROFA) and Uhrenfabrik Glashütte AG, known as UFAG. He reserved the “Tutima” brand name for his best quality timepieces. The company used to manufacture high-quality pilot’s watches during the 1940s in Glashütte. A prominent creation during this era was the Tutima Fliegerchronograph made for the German Luftwaffe in 1941.
During the Second World War, Kurtz transferred his watchmaking business to a Lower Saxon community called Ganderkesee and started producing under “KURTZ” brand name. In the 1960s, Tutima brand was revived under the effective leadership of Mr. Dieter Delecate, the founder of Tutima Uhrenfabrik GmbH, Ganderkesee.
In 1984, Tutima Military Chronograph (Ref. 798) was selected as the official pilot’s watch of NATO. The reference 798 was equipped with the powerful Tutima Lemania 5100 movement.
In 1994, the brand launched the Flieger Classic Chronograph, the re-edition of the legendary Tutima Fliegerchronograph of 1941. In 2011, Tutima returned to Glashütte with the official inauguration of Tutima Glashütte SA. To mark this historical event, the brand released Hommage, the first authentic made-in-Glashütte minute repeater. In 2018, Tutima Glashütte won the Manufacture of the year by the Verband Deutsche Manufakturen e. V. (Association of German Manufactures).
Tutima has been associated with the fascinating world of ocean sports and sailing competitions since a long time. The company not only makes exceptional professional water sports timekeepers but also sponsors world-class sporting events. Since 2005, Tutima has been appointed as the Official Timekeeper at the Kieler Woche Regattas, the world’s largest annual sailing event. In 2009, the German watch brand formed its own team. Tutima’s sailing team has a 14-meter dk46 racing cruiser with all-women crew and regularly competes in international regattas.
Tutima has been involved in the aviation field since a long time. Its accurate timekeepers adorn the wrists of the most admirable aviators in the world. Since 2004, the company has been a key partner of the German Aero Club and the main sponsor of the German National Powered Flight Team. In 2006, the brand founded the Tutima Academy of Aviation Safety, a leading global school for precision flight training in California, in partnership with Sean D. Tucker, an American aerobatic flight legend and celebrated member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame.
Based in Glashütte, the German watchmaking house offers remarkable collections, ranging from military-grade sports watches to classic dress timepieces. At present, the important flagship lines from Tutima are: M2, Grand Flieger, Patria, Saxon One and Sky.

Grand Flieger
Especially designed for professionals and enthusiasts, Tutima Grand Flieger pays tribute to the German brand’s long standing association with aviation. This line offers highly reliable and technical watches inspired by the historical Tutima pilot watches. Presently, the Grand Flieger collection by Tutima offers three distinct families: Grand Flieger Classic, Grand Flieger Airport and Flieger Automatic.
The Tutima Grand Flieger is a modern interpretation of a 1940s Tutima pilot’s chronograph. Equipped with caliber UROFA 59, it was the first German chronograph to have addition timing and Tempostopp (flyback) function.
Available in chronograph and day-date versions, the contemporary creations from the Grand Flieger classic collection feature 43mm diameter solid stainless steel cases topped with bidirectional rotating, fluted bezels. Highlighting a contemporary design, the Grand Flieger Airport variants feature smooth rotating bezel with 60-minute divisions and luminous markings. Both Classic and Airport models have water resistance of 200 meters. The Flieger Automatic version features 41mm case without bezel and has a water resistance of 100 meters. These timepieces house self-winding movements and available with stainless steel bracelet or leather strap.
