All About Frédérique Constant Watches
History of Frederique Constant
The frederique constant brand was established by Peter C. Stas and his wife Aletta Bax in 1988. At that time, most Swiss made luxury watches were inaccessible to a substantial number of prospective customers due to their exorbitant prices. Both Peter and Aletta wanted to democratize the Swiss luxury watch industry. The brand name Frederique Constant was formed by combining ‘Frédérique’ of Frédérique Schreiner, who was Aletta’s great-grandmother and ‘Constant’ of Constant Stas, who was Peter’s great-grandfather.
Frederique Constant introduced its first watch collection in 1992. Designed by Peter and Aletta, these timepieces were assembled by a Geneva based watchmaker. Unveiled in 1994, its mechanical Heart beat watches became an emblematic series representing the innovative spirit of the Swiss Maison. Introduced in 1999, the Highlife has been grown into one of the flagship collections of the luxury brand. In 2002, Peter and Aletta acquired the traditional Swiss watch brand Alpina.
The company began manufacturing its own in-house movements in 2004. The brand's first manufacture movement was calibre FC-910. In 2006, Frederique Constant established a new manufacture building in Plan-les-Ouates in Geneva. This strategic decision allowed the provisioning of sufficient space for its head-quarters and production facilities to cater the growing demand from worldwide markets.
In 2008, Peter C. Stas, Pim Koeslag and Robert van Pappelendam co-founded the premium watch brand Ateliers deMonaco. Initially based in Monaco, this brand subsequently moved to Geneva and later became an integral part of Frédérique Constant manufacture. In 2015, the innovative company introduced the first Swiss Made smart-watch the time-honored classic wristwatch design. In 2016, the Citizen group became the major share holder of Frederique Constant Holding SA, which also owns Alpina and Ateliers deMonaco brands.

Presently, Frederique Constant develops and produces a wide variety of mechanical, quartz and connected timepieces at the same time within this spacious and ultra-modern Manufacture.
