History of Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton, the world’s most valued luxury brand, was established in 1854 in Paris. This global luxury goods company is named after its legendary founder. In the 1850s, inspired by the luxury trunks of the famous H.J. Cave & Sons of London, Louis Vuitton meticulously crafted a light-weight and air-tight canvas flat trunk. His innovative rectangular canvas trunk became popular among the world travellers of that era. Within no time, these trunks became an integral part of opulent lifestyle of the royals and businessmen. Along with their elegant looks and outstanding manufacturing quality, some special design features made it more secure and easy for carrying.

With his revolutionary canvas trunks, the legendary French entrepreneur initiated a new culture in the luxury industry. In 1888, Vuitton introduced the iconic Damier Canvas pattern. In 1896, under the eminent leadership of Louis Vuitton’s son Georges Vuitton, the company launched the distinctive Monogram Canvas design. These two timeless design patterns still inspire various LV products, including Louis Vuitton watches.

In the 1940s, Louis Vuitton began diversifying its business portfolio. It gradually released new leather products like purses, bags, and wallets. Dressed up with the iconic designs and patterns, these products became ultimate status symbols.Subsequently, the company started collaborating with talented fashion designers and celebrities for its luxury clothing lines, leather bags, jewellery and other lifestyle products.

In 1987, the global luxury group LVMH was incorporated by merging Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy. Based in Paris, LVMH is the largest luxury-goods conglomerate in the world. It manages several luxury brands specialized in diverse sectors like Fashion, Wines and Spirits, Perfumes and Cosmetics, luxury watches and Jewellery.

History of Louis Vuitton Watches

Instead of licensing out watchmaking activities to other manufactures, Louis Vuitton set up its own venture. The first Louis Vuitton watch collection, the Tambour was launched in 2002. This inaugural collection included the chronometer-certified LV 277 automatic chronograph watch featuring a number of signature styles of the iconic French luxury brand. Equipped with the iconic Zenith El Primero movement, this timepiece provided a stable foundation for the Louis Vuitton’s luxury watch business.

In 2008, the company founded the Ateliers Louis Vuitton in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. In 2009, Louis Vuitton introduced the famous Tambour Spin Time watch. This innovative horology creation features a unique time display orchestrated by 12 rotating cubes. In 2011, to expand Louis Vuitton’s watch business, LVMH acquired Swiss movement manufacturer La Fabrique du Temps. In 2014, a new company named La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton was opened in Geneva.

Introduced in 2002, the Louis Vuitton Tambour is a family of premium timepieces featuring a unique case design inspired by the shapre of drum, known as Tambour in French language. At present, its flagship line Tambour includes a comprehensive range of luxury watches for men. The Tambour series also offers superb LV women watches.

Since its establishment, the French luxury house has been associated with world travelling. To pay homage to this enduring legacy, Louis Vuitton offers an impressive choice of GMT/Dual time-zone and world-time timepieces from the Tambour collection.

Introduced in 2009, the Tambour Spin Time is a highly distinct and playful series of mechnical watches. This atypical louis vuitton watch performs a spectacular jumping-hours display with the help of an ingenious mechanism that controls 12 spinning cubes. A centrally placed hand indicates the minutes. Since its creation, the Tambour Spin Time watch collection has been updated by adding complications like GMT and Regatta counter. For women, Louis Vuitton offers a number of gem-set versions of this innovative timepiece. The most recent generation of this collection is Tambour Spin Time Air.

Since 1983, the luxury brand has been associated with the world of Yachting and Regatta. Celebrating the brand’s passion for sailing competitions, Louis Vuitton also offers some exceptional Regatta watches under the Tambour collection.

The inspiring evolution of Louis Vuitton’s popular watch collection Tambour was commenced in 2002. The first model from this flagship series was the LV 277 automatic chronograph chronometer. This timepiece was inspired by the world of sailing competitions. The brand has subsequently added various chronograph models to the Tambour collection. Some notable creations evolved from this iconic timepiece are: the Evolution Chronograph GMT, the Twin Chrono, the Twin Chrono Grand Sport and the Moon Star Chronograph. From this collection, Louis Vuitton also offers complication timepieces featuring minute repeater or tourbillon. Apart from Louis Vuitton Tambour, the Parisian luxury house also offers two distinct watch collections: Escale and Voyager.
