Panerai Watches

Firmly rooted from a watchmaking shop and a school established in 1860 in Florence, Panerai has built itself a glorious history as one of the best luxury watchmakers in the world. The brand is well renowned with its high quality watches, especially the Panerai Luminor that are beautifully crafted and gained significant success for the brand.

Having undergone some drastic changes in its business, Panerai has been further strengthened and has stroven to produce state-of-the-art pieces for its admirers. In 2016, a brand new collection was born to the world of Panerai - the Luminor Due! Tribute to its iconic models, the brand has made the contemporary reinterpretation of its Luminor models back in the year 1950 with the launch of this new series.

The new Panerai Luminor Due collection is considered as a new chapter in the history of Panerai. The watch was redesigned from the classic Luminor of the 1950s but subtly redesigned, making its grand entrance into the legacy of Officine Panerai. Flawlessly blending Italian design and Swiss craftsmanship, the Luminor Due watch has renewed the standard of the high quality sports watchmaking of Panerai.

Panerai is known as the precision instrument supplier of the Royal Italian Navy for a really long period of time. The brand has well developed their reputation by providing high quality watches with its innovative inventions.

In 1916 the company created and patented Panerai Radiomir – a powder which was based on radium and offered luminosity to the dials for high readability. And further in 1949, a safer and non-toxic luminous substance was invented as Panerai Luminor. The introduction of this new substance has brought Panerai great success and further led to the birth of the legendary watch collection a few decades later.

Due to the request from the Italian military during the wars, the company had developed the Luminor watchline completely. This watch was equipped with a cushion shaped case that was similar to the Radiomir watch. It featured a crown protecting bridge which kept people from the unwilling fidgeting of the time being displayed on the watch. The Panerai watch brand had gained massive attention from the industry with the debut of this watch in 1950. Today Panerai Luminor is considered as one of the most acclaimed luxury diver watches in history.

Thus, to tribute the iconic Panerai diver watch, the brand decided to carry out a modern reinterpretation of the Luminor of 1950. It came up with the new collection Panerai Luminor Due in 2016. The re-edited model came with Panerai’s thinnest automatic calibres developed.

The new Luminor Due collection was officially launched in May at 2016 Florence’s “Dive into Time” exhibition. This launch was meant to review the classic Luminor-style case and adapt this military tool watch to the modern watch-wearing style for the public.

Panerai Luminor Due is said to represent a new chapter in the history of Panerai. This new version of Luminor has a slimmer case that houses a modern in-house movement with a micro-rotor for automatic winding. While the Luminor was originally made to be a professional tool watch for men in the Navy, now this watch is designed to be worn by watch lovers to any occasion.

Case

Since the Panerai Luminor is very popular, there are many collectors who want to wear their Luminor in a more formal, buttoned-down occasion. The Luminor Due models are dressier so that the wearers can feel free to slide their watch underneath their shirt cuff in a natural way.

The Panerai Luminor Due watch looks more elegant with a refined case and the sloping touch of the bezel.

Panerai has been known for manufacturing luxury watches in very large sizes due to its military heritage. They have designed the Panerai Luminor Due in a smaller range of sizes. There are 38mm models as the smallest watches that Panerai has ever manufactured. Thus and most importantly, the Panerai Due is available with both watches for men and women alike.

The Luminor Due is equipped with a much thinner case than other classic Luminor models. The thickness of the Luminor Due 45 mm version is 10.7 mm, and its 42 mm version is 10.5 mm which performs a 40 percent reduction from the standard Panerai Luminor 1950 case. As one would expect, the new watches offer a noticeable reduction in weight as well.

Movement

The Luminor Due line debuted with four new models in 2016. They all are powered by an in-house mechanical movement with a power reserve of three days. With their slimmer cases, these new Luminor Due are housing slimmer movements indeed. Panerai equipped these watches with the P.1000 manually wound caliber and the P.4000 automatic movement.

The P. 4000 movement originally debuted in 2014 as Panerai’s thinnest automatic caliber. It comes with a height of only 3.95 mm. It features a bidirectional micro rotor sunk into the baseplate in order to wind the watch. On top of the impressive thinness, the movement is excellent in terms of robustness, which has been one of the main characteristics of Panerai in-house movements since the early 2000s. These include a large, sparsely decorated baseplate, a sturdy bridge, substantial screws throughout, and of course KIF Parechoc anti shock protection.

For just a few years, Panerai has already released a handful of updated versions for its youngest collection Panerai Luminor Due. The brand has put impressive effort on its growth with the latest technologies.

In 2021, for the Luminor Due new models, Panerai used the new P.900 Calibre. It is one of the thinnest automatic movements produced at the manufacture in Neuchâtel, with the thickness of 4.2mm. It is also the first Panerai automatic watch of this diameter that contains both a date display and a power reserve of three days. In the 45mm Luminor Due GMT Power Reserve, PAM964, the P.4002 Calibre is used. With just 4.8 thickness, his sophisticated movement has twin time zones with dial-side power reserve indication and am/pm indicator of 24 hours.

Panerai Luminor Due, or Panerai Luminor Due 3 days, inheriting the legacy of Luminor, is a watch which has a rich culture. Crafted with heritage of the brand and discreet modern designs, it is a fantastic everyday watch for your collection.
