History of Piaget

The iconic watchmaker-jeweler brand was founded by Georges Édouard Piaget in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées in the Swiss Jura region. As a producer of precision mechanical movements, his family workshop supplied high-quality mechanisms to renowned watch makers.

The founder’s son Timothée Piaget, who took over the family business in 1911, ventured into the production of pocket watches and wristwatches. In 1943, after registering the Piaget trademark, the company commenced the manufacturing of luxury watches under its own brand name. Under the eminent leadership of founder’s grandsons Gérald and Valentin Piaget, the brand undertook extensive developments, including the establishment of new manufacture in La Côte-aux-Fées in 1945.

The manufacture launched its first ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical movement 9P in 1957. The first Piaget boutique in Geneva was opened in 1959. This year also marked the unveiling of Piaget’s first jewellery collections. This significant step also helped the manufacture for exploring the territory of high-jewelry watches. During the same time, the Piaget Watch Corporation was set up in New York for launching the luxury brand into the United States. In 1961, the brand unveiled the first ultra-thin automatic mechanical caliber 12P.

In 1961, the brand began manufacturing timepieces endowed with dials made of hard or semi-precious stones. The brand also launched the iconic cuff watches during this specific period. In 1979, the popular Polo watch was introduced.

In 1988, Piaget was acquired by Vendôme Luxury Group (now Richemont group). In 1990, Piaget introduced the Possession jewellery collection. The manufacture also released new generation ultra-thin mechanical movements during this period. In 2001, Piaget established the Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie in Plan-les-Ouates, near Geneva.

Paiget Watch Collections

Paiget Altiplano

Named after the iconic South American plateau, Altiplano is the centre stage for showcasing Paiget’s mastery in ultra-thin watch making.
