Omega
My Choice Constellation Limited Edition Watches
Back in 1982, Omega released a watch that brought in a game changing and long lasting style. In fact, the model was named the Constellation Manhattan and these days it is renowned for its distinct claws, which make it one of the most recognisable timepieces on the planet. Designed to hold the sapphire crystal and gasket flush within the watch case, the claws of Griffes as they are known at Omega, helped to ensure that the model remained waterproof.
These Griffes or claws would go on to become a trademark of the Constellation line and to this day they are an immensely popular feature of this famous family of watches.
In 1995 Omega brought globally popular American supermodel and personality Cindy Crawford onto their project of brand ambassadors, with the Constellation her watch of choice. Undoubtedly, this marketing masterstroke would prove to be a key driver behind the fact that, since this event, the Constellation line has continued to be a huge favourite for watch collectors of all stripes.
Crawford would go on to help launch the My Choice campaign, which advertised each of Omega’s primary watch families by tying them to a famous ambassador such as Crawford and many more besides.
In 2009 Omega relaunched the Constellation line to massive anticipation. Featuring new movement featuring Co-Axial escapement, designed entirely in house, Omega essentially updated every single detail of the constellation for the 21st century watch lover. Indeed, the renowned griffes continue to make each Constellation special and yet the aesthetic continues to be slightly improved and modernised. For example, the bracelets come with Mono Rang technology, which uses butterfly clasps for a more comfortable user experience. Dial colours include silver, champagne, brown and black. In addition, there are iterations with mother-of-pearl faces that are hugely popular and undoubtedly gorgeous. All of the new Constellations models are now water resistant up to 100 metres.
The beauty of the new Constellation line is the way in which Omega have managed to balance the old, beloved edition with modern technology and updates to material. Fashionable and sophisticated, the re-designed Constellation comes in a range of case sizes, namely 24 mm, 27 mm, 31 mm, 35 mm and 38 mm.
Internally, these watches continue to push boundaries. Indeed, each of the automatic models in the fresh Constellation family come with Omega’s pioneering Co-Axial escapement. This amazing technology makes for enhanced stability in watch timekeeping precision over a long period of years.
Equipped with either the calibre 8500 / 8501, the calibre 8520 / 8521 or the calibre 2500, the automatic iterations in the family are among some of the most robust and sophisticated watch movements on the planet. There are also quartz options available, which are also exceptional examples of the craft.
Perhaps the most alluring element of Omega’s new Constellation family are the Luxury Edition timepieces. Glittering with round diamonds set upon a pristine white background, the watches serve to showcase the beauty of the jewels themselves. Exceedingly glamorous and luxurious in the extreme, the Constellations luxury line are some of the most sophisticated timepieces ever released by Omega.
Essentially, the new Constellation family is a gorgeous, modernised update of a model which is a key element of Omega’s history. The family represents a more than able follow-up to the legendary original whilst showing it’s own unique approach to design, function and luxury.
